Plantar Fasciitis

About Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a common foot condition that causes pain and discomfort in the heel and the bottom of the foot. It is characterized by inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot, connecting the heel bone to the toes. Plantar fasciitis can be a painful and persistent condition, but with proper understanding, treatment, and preventive measures, it can be managed effectively.

Causes of Plantar Fasciitis

Overuse or Strain

Repetitive activities that put excessive strain on the plantar fascia, such as long-distance running, standing for extended periods, or sudden increases in activity, can lead to micro-tears in the fascia, causing inflammation and pain.

Foot Structure

Individuals with high arches, flat feet, or abnormal walking patterns may be more susceptible to plantar fasciitis because of the uneven distribution of weight and stress on the fascia.

Improper Footwear

Wearing shoes with inadequate arch support or poor cushioning can contribute to the development of Plantar Fasciitis.

Obesity

Excess weight places additional stress on the plantar fascia, increasing the risk of inflammation and pain.

Age

Plantar Fasciitis is more common in adults, particularly those between the ages of 40 and 60.
